Voiceover for ecommerce

“I think back to the seminal character of Willy Loman, the doomed protagonist in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. Instead of changing with the times, Willy would tell himself fables. By the time he recognized that his world had passed him by, it was too late.”

So says Michael Litt, CEO and Co-Founder of Vidyard, a global video creation, hosting and analytics platform for businesses. In a recent article for Forbes he talks about the massive change that has happened in sales since Covid-19 triggered lockdowns.

It’s all about the video

“Since the pandemic, the power of video as a way to connect with customers has surged, and digital interactions with sales reps are up 41%.”

Voiceover as sales reps

Most online businesses make videos of their products or services. As consumers we value the videos on ASOS and other online retailers allowing us to see items from different angles, how they are worn, how they hang and move. We love to know more about how the software we are considering works and what it will do for us - personally.

When you’re in a competitive marketplace you need an edge to get the sales. A professional voiceover telling your potential customers more about the product - describing craftsmanship, utility, durability or telling us why your solution is more personal and more reliable. Making your offering - and your brand, stand out in an increasingly busy marketplace.

Who needs voiceover for sales?

For a start - anyone with a Shopify store should consider using professional voiceover. Small businesses and solopreneurs can digitally pivot their businesses with ecommerce, and adding a skilled voice artist to that takes their brand to the next level.

Someone browsing a marketplace for products who comes across your business and hears what you’re offering as well as seeing it, sits up and takes more notice.

Biteable found that

66% of marketers say their videos perform better with a voiceover.

Wyzowl found that:

An informal and chatty tone is preferred by 83% of consumers.

Hire a professional voiceover

Professional voiceovers like me spend a lot of time working on our craft. We can deliver that ‘informal and chatty tone’ your potential customers respond to. And a voice artist can do it in the right way for your product. Informal and chatty selling sweaters is not the same informal and chatty you want if you’re offering funeral services.

Echoey rooms, clicky voices, heavy breaths. All these diminish your brand instead of elevating it - and they’re all things that good professional voiceovers won’t deliver.

Like the clean shop floor and the dust-free shelves of our old favourite shops, good voiceover is orderly, clean, and even a little bit shiny!
